CTET EVS: Teeth, Trees, Abu Dhabi & Bihu

This part of our NCERT series covers biological adaptations in animals, the diverse flora of the world, and inspiring Indian personalities in the defense forces.

🦷 Animal Adaptations: Teeth

Different animals have teeth structures adapted to their specific diets:

  • Cow: Has short front teeth for snipping grass; side teeth are large and flat for chewing.
  • Cat: Has sharp teeth optimized for tearing and cutting meat.
  • Snake: Has curved, sharp teeth but never chews its prey. It always swallows food whole.
  • Squirrel: Its front teeth keep growing throughout its life. It must gnaw on things to keep them from becoming too long.

🦷 Human Teeth Breakdown

  • Temporary Teeth: 20 (Milk teeth)
  • Permanent Teeth: 32
    • Incisors: 8 (Cutting)
    • Canines: 4 (Tearing)
    • Premolars: 8 (Grinding)
    • Molars: 12 (Grinding)

🌳 Fascinating Trees

1. Banyan Tree (बरगद)

  • The hanging structures are actually aerial roots.
  • These roots act as pillars, providing strong structural support to the heavy tree.

2. Desert Oak (रेगिस्तानी ओक)

  • Found in Australia.
  • Its roots go very deep into the ground until they reach water.
  • This water is stored in the tree trunk. Local people use a thin pipe to drink this water during droughts.

🌾 Assam: Bihu Festival

  • Timing: Celebrated on the 14th and 15th of January (Magh Bihu) during the harvest of the new rice crop.
  • Bhela Ghar: A temporary shed made of grass and bamboo built during the festival (the first day is called Uruka).
  • Bora Rice: A common variety of sticky rice used in Assam.

🏜️ Abu Dhabi (UAE)

  • Geography: Located in a desert area with miles of sand and no rivers, lakes, or ponds.
  • Resources: Petrol is easily available and is actually cheaper than water.
  • Flora: The only tree that flourishes here is the Date Palm.
  • Basics:
    • Capital: Abu Dhabi
    • Currency: Dirham
    • Language: Arabic

🎖️ Lieutenant Commander Wahida Prism

An inspiring figure from the Indian Navy frequently featured in EVS pedagogy.

  • Profession: Doctor in the Indian Navy.
