CTET FAQ: Eligibility, Passing Marks, and Exam Pattern
Navigating the eligibility criteria and passing rules for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) can be confusing. Here are the most common questions answered to help you plan your teaching career.
1. I scored 75 marks in CTET. Am I eligible for teaching posts in Telangana (or other states)?
Answer: Generally, No.
- General Category: You need 90 marks (60%) out of 150 to qualify.
- Reserved Categories (OBC/SC/ST): You need 82.5 marks (55%) to qualify.
- Important Note: If you belong to a reserved category, your 55% score is valid only in your home state or for central government schools (KVS/NVS). If you apply for a job in another state (like Telangana), you will be treated as a General candidate and must have scored at least 90 marks to be considered eligible.
2. I have 50% in Post Graduation with a B.Ed. Can I appear for CTET?
Answer: Yes. As per the NCTE guidelines, candidates with at least 50% marks in Graduation or Post Graduation along with a B.Ed degree are eligible to appear for both Paper 1 (Primary) and Paper 2 (Upper Primary).
3. Does the CTET syllabus change every year?
Answer: No. The core syllabus for CTET Paper 1 and Paper 2 remains largely consistent. However, the difficulty level and the nature of questions (moving from factual to more conceptual and pedagogical) have evolved, especially since the shift to the online mode (CBT).
4. Was the CTET 2019 exam OMR-based or online (CBT)?
Answer: OMR-based. All CTET exams up to 2019 were conducted in pen-and-paper mode using OMR sheets. The transition to Computer Based Test (CBT) occurred starting from the December 2021 session to ensure safety and modernization.
5. Am I eligible for CTET if I am in the 1st year of my 2-year B.Ed/D.El.Ed program?
Answer: Yes (Updated Rule). According to the latest NCTE clarification, any person who has been admitted to a teacher training course (TTC) and is pursuing it is eligible to appear for the TET/CTET exam. You no longer need to be in the final year to appear.
6. What is the validity of the CTET certificate?
Answer: The validity of the CTET qualifying certificate for appointment is now Lifetime for all categories. This was updated from the previous 7-year validity period.
