🌳 The Khejadi Tree (खेजड़ी)

Found primarily in desert areas like Rajasthan, this tree is vital for the local ecosystem and the Bishnoi tribe.

  • Survival: Can grow with very little water.
  • Medicine: Its bark is used to make medicines.
  • Durability: Its wood is resistant to insects (it doesn't get infested by "keeda").
  • Food: The fruits (beans) are eaten as vegetables, and the leaves serve as fodder for animals.

🎨 Madhubani Painting (मधुबनी लोककला)

Madhubani is a world-renowned folk art originating from Bihar.

  • Origin: Named after the Madhubani district in Bihar.
  • Materials: The paintings are made from a paste of powdered rice mixed with natural colors.
  • Natural Dyes: Colors are derived from Indigo (Neel), Turmeric (Haldi), flowers, and tree extracts.
  • Themes: Usually depicts humans, animals, trees, flowers, birds, and fish.
ℹ️ Note

Madhubani art is one of the oldest forms of folk art and is traditionally done on the walls and floors of houses during festivals.


🏋️‍♀️ Karnam Malleshwari (कर्णम मल्लेश्वरी)

An inspiring figure for Indian sports and a recurring topic in EVS pedagogy.

  • Profession: International Weightlifter.
  • Home State: Andhra Pradesh.
  • Achievement: Won a Bronze Medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
  • Records: She has won 29 medals in international events and can lift up to 130 kg.

🛶 Kerala: Culture & Geography

  • Transport: Ferry is a common boat used to cross backwaters in Kerala.
  • Food: People enjoy eating vegetables made of Banana flowers.
  • Relationships: In Malayalam:
    • Valiyamma: Mother's elder sister.
    • Ammumma: Mother's mother.
  • Kozhikode: Also known as Calicut, famous for its spices (cardamom, clove, pepper).
