VOICE 

In Voice topic we discuss Active Voice and Passive Voice. We also learn the rule of different tenses. This short article definitely help you  two understand the voice topic in a easy manner. For understanding the topic in easy way, firstly you learn tenses. 

Verb forms

 

Present Indefinite (Present Simple) Tense

Active - S + V1(s/es) + O.
Passive - S + is/am/are + V3 + by + O.

Example -  
1. Active Voice - Radha writes a letter.
   Passive Voice - A letter is written by Radha.

2. Active Voice - They play cricket.
    Passive Voice - Cricket is played by them.

 

Present Continuous Tense

Active - S + is/am/are +  V4 + O.
Passive - S + is/am/are + being +  V3 + by + O.

Example -  
1. Active Voice - Rohan is singing a song.
   Passive Voice - A song is being sung by Rohan.

2. Active Voice - Students are reading a newspaper.
    Passive Voice - A newspaper is being read by students.



Present Perfect Tense

Active - S + has/have + V3 + O.
Passive - S + has/have +  been + V3 + by + O.

Example -  
1. Active Voice - Teacher has beaten the students.
   Passive Voice - The students has been beaten by teacher.

2. Active Voice - He has missed the train.
    Passive Voice - The train has been missed by him.


 Simple Past

Active - S + V2 + O.
Passive - S + was/were + V3 + by + O.

Example -  
1. Active Voice - She purchased the stocks of Tata Motor.
   Passive Voice - The stocks of Tata Motor were purchased by her.

2. Active Voice - They played cricket in the school.
    Passive Voice - Cricket was played by them in the school.

 Past Continuous 

Active - S +  was/were  + V4 + O.
Passive - S + was/were + being +  V3 + by + O.

Example -  
1. Active Voice - Ashok was reading a story book.
   Passive Voice - A story book was being read by Ashok.

2. Active Voice - Minister was inaugurating the new modern school of this city.
    Passive Voice - The new modern school of this city was being inaugurated by minister.



Past Perfect Tense

Active - S +  had  + V3 + O.
Passive - S + had + been +  V3 + by + O.

Example -  
1. Active Voice - He had killed a snake.
   Passive Voice - A snake had been killed by him.

2. Active Voice - They had stitched the cloths.
    Passive Voice - The cloths had been stitched by them.

 Simple Future Tense 

Active - S +  shall/will  + V1 + O.
Passive - S + shall/will + be+  V3 + by + O.

Example -  
1. Active Voice - She will cook a food.
   Passive Voice - A food will be cooked by her.

2. Active Voice - The principal will address the teacher. 
    Passive Voice - The teacher will be address by the principal.


 Future Perfect Tense 

Active - S +  shall/will  + have + V3 + O.
Passive - S + shall/will + have + been +  V3 + by + O.

Example -  
1. Active Voice - Raju will have bought a new Maruti Car.
   Passive Voice - A new Maruti car will have been bought by Raju. 

2. Active Voice - They will eaten the cake on new year day.
    Passive Voice - The cake will have been eaten by them on new year day.

Interrogative Sentence

1. Do/Does

Active - Do/Does + S + V1 + O ?
Passive - Is/am/are + S + V3 + by + O ?

Example -  
1. Active Voice - Do we go to the woolen market?
   Passive Voice - Is the woolen market gone by us ?

2. Active Voice - Does she cheat you ?
    Passive Voice - Are you cheated by her ?


2. Did

Active - Did + S + V2 + O ?
Passive - Was/were + S + V3 + by + O ?

Example -  
1. Active Voice - Did Ravi met you ?
   Passive Voice - Were you met by Ravi ?

2. Active Voice - Did she occupied your seat ?
    Passive Voice -  Were your seat occupied by her ?

3. Active Voice - Did Ranjana taught him ?
    Passive Voice -  Was he taught by Ranjana ?

3. Has/Have/Had

Active - Has/Have/Had  + S + V3 + O ?
Passive - Has/Have/Had + S + been + V3 + by + O ?

Example -  
1. Active Voice - Has she participated in the dance competition ?
   Passive Voice - Has in the dance competition been participated by her ?

2. Active Voice - Had Ravi owned this flat ?
    Passive Voice - Had this flat been owned by Ravi ?
